As part of our continued growth, we seek to hire a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Electric Drives function within our Hardware team, Connected Products. This is a newly created position specialising in designing rotating mechanical / mechatronic components and associated manufacturing/test fixtures for volume applications. You will have the opportunity to make an impact on the products we develop and help to solve some of our most challenging engineering problems. The ideal person will have experience supporting product development and manufacturing across the full product lifecycle in a relevant industry.

What you’ll do

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create high quality products that delight our customers
  • Capture and interpret requirements, generating clear specifications and proposals
  • Track and resolve issues identified in product development/manufacture/testing/end-use
  • Detailed mechanical/electrical design of components for mechatronic systems, including manufacturing/test fixtures (e.g. jigs and rigs) for prototyping and high-volume production
  • Specify and integrate third-party mechanical components (bearings, fasteners, seals etc.), collaborating with other engineering functions to develop, test and manufacture optimised mechatronic systems
  • Demonstrate that designs are robust, cost effective and fit for purpose, defining appropriate manufacturing routes where required and incorporating supplier DfX feedback
  • Support design reviews and provide advice/feedback, identify opportunities for improvement
  • Support development and maintainence of DFMEAs, safety studies etc., identify CCFs etc. and support PFMEA/quality plan development by colleagues and suppliers
  • Assist colleagues, customers and suppliers with troubleshooting technical issues, in the field or remotely, as required
  • Help provide root cause analysis and corrective action implementation as a result of build issues and reliability testing.
  • Support the build & test of prototype mechanical hardware/systems as required for projects

What you’ll have

  • Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline.
  • Experience developing mechanical elements of mechatronic systems for volume production applications.
  • Experience with parametric 2D and 3D CAD (preferably SolidWorks).
  • Experience of managing/collaborating with contract manufacturing partners

Bonus Points

  • Experience of supporting development and launch of series production electric motors
  • Experience of working in the fitness hardware industry
