At Cobalt Robotics, our indoor robots work together with remote human operators to keep our customers safe. We patrol 24x7 to help prevent break-ins, detect massive leaks and give our customers visibility over their space, their assets, and their data.

Our robots are complex electromechanical systems - standing 5ft tall and weighing in at 175 lbs, with numerous motors, sensors, circuit boards, and wiring harnesses. Your role will be to design new mechanical assemblies and subsystems as well as assist in ensuring our robots are produced with the highest quality standards. 

What you'll do:

    • Design, analyze, and update all aspects of the robot’s mechanical systems and assemblies as part of the mechanical engineering team.
    • Create mechanical assembly and test procedures.
    • Work with the manufacturing team to drive improvements in the build and test process.
    • Assist in troubleshooting mechanical issues in production.

What you'll need:

    • Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering.
    • 2-5 years experience with the design of complex robots, and mechanisms containing motors, bearings, and electronics.
    • Experience sizing and selecting motors and gearheads for robotic actuators.
    • Excellent 3D CAD skills in one of the major industry packages (Creo, Solidworks, UG NX, etc…) PTC Creo preferred.
    • Experience creating and updating assembly procedures.
    • Experience with structural analysis (FEA).
    • Good grasp of mechanical drawings and tolerances.

Bonus skills:

    • Basic understanding of PCB fabrication
    • Basic understanding of electrical cabling and wire harness construction
    • Basic machining skills on the mill, lathe, and drill press
