At Huel we believe our customers deserve the best products and we want to give them a first class experience every time they have a Huel product. We are proud to be supplying our Hueligans with real food that contains the highest quality ingredients, sourced in the most ethical manner. With this in mind, it is really important to us that we only work with suppliers and manufacturing partners who share the same values and goals as we do.

As a result of the growth, we are looking for an enthusiastic Ingredient Technologist to help us maintain the safety and quality standards of our Ingredients. We carefully select and review every single ingredient that goes into our products and you will be integral to this process, making sure that we are always getting the best quality for our customers.

You will work very closely with the wider Technical team, ensuring smooth transition and control of our ingredients at every point in their journey, making sure that we avoid any quality or food safety issues along the way. You will champion ingredient perfection both onsite with suppliers and at Huel HQ and will be eager to work with and continuously raise the standards with our global supply base.

This role is based at our global HQ in Tring, Hertfordshire and you’ll be required to be in the office a minimum of three days per week (a great time to take advantage of our onsite Gym!). To make sure we’re achieving the highest standards, you will be required to travel to our suppliers monthly.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Your overall goal will be to maintain the quality and safety of our growing portfolio of ingredients, reviewing and assessing ingredients and documentation to make sure that they meet our high standards
  • Day-to-day you’ll assess our current supply chains and monitor any emerging issues which could impact our ingredients, building relationships with suppliers both remotely and through regular on site visits (UK and abroad!) to improve standards
  • Maintaining the quality throughout our entire supply chain is vital - you’ll work with our co-packers to ensure smooth transition of new ingredients to their sites by ensuring that they are carrying out appropriate checks of incoming ingredients
  • To identify ingredient issues and check quality, you’ll work in our high spec sensory laboratory to monitor incoming ingredients - think PH tests, available water tests to name a few…
  • As an Ingredient Technologist we will be looking for you to be proactive and rise to deliver projects outside of your normal remit - notice a new opportunity to make our supply chain and ingredients more robust? Show us your drive and commitment to deliver something better!
  • We’re a data driven business and this role will be no different. You will use a range of data to make better and smarter decisions
  • Working closely with our NPD and Procurement teams to ensure that we select great ingredients to deliver our ambitious NPD pipeline projects

What we’re looking for:

  • First and foremost, someone who is proactive and never stands still while questioning what we do, why we do it and how we could do it better. You will need to be organised with great attention to detail, able to prioritise and work to tight deadlines. We’re fast paced and we love change!
  • You’ll have worked in a food environment, ideally within ingredients where you have built relationships with suppliers to drive improvements alongside working with specs and risk
  • Someone who is comfortable, confident and familiar with auditing supplier manufacturing sites, preferably to GFSI standards
  • We need someone who is able to travel to suppliers and co-packers monthly. As some are located globally, you’ll need to be confident travelling abroad alone
  • Working within Technical you’ll speak with external teams so a passion for our brand alongside delivering the very best standards will be super important. We don’t do the norm, we want to be the best; and you’ll be responsible for achieving this with our partners
  • You will be a great team player, who brings with you energy and enthusiasm for what you do. We’re all working towards our mission and we’re having fun doing it!
  • A degree in food science or similar is desirable

What we can offer you:

We work hard at Huel, and we like to reward our team for it, so alongside free bags of Huel to keep you going, you can expect;

  • Opportunity to work from home 2 days per week
  • ‘Huel Learn’ - our commitment to bettering your career alongside first-class on the job training
  • Private healthcare and pension schemes, for your own peace of mind
  • Like going to the gym? No problem, we have a free on-site gym with free classes, and we will give you your own nutrition plan to help you achieve those goals.
  • Quarterly events to celebrate success, and even the opportunity to bring your dog into the office too! Did we mention we love animals?
