In May of 2021, Jellysmack raised the largest funding round ever to come from Softbank’s Second Visionfund. The funding will be used to invest in new product development, rapid international expansion and headcount growth. The company has around 1,500 employees based out of New York City (HQ), London and Paris, among other locations - with most of the revenue currently generated in the USA, but the international portion of the business beginning to scale.

The mission of Jellysmack is to enable all creators to scale bigger. The next few years will see the rapid expansion of the business from a product and geographic standpoint as it looks to cement its status as the infrastructure platform for the creator economy.

Background

The gap in the market for an offering like Jellysmack is clear. In the battle to rise to the top and make a sustainable living as a creator, time to curate, edit and optimize one’s content across multiple platforms is limited. Through its proprietary tech platform, Jellysmack is able to help content creators and brands promote and monetise their content across a range of services, including YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and TikTok - taking a share of the revenue in return. The success of any online content creator hinges on the recommendation algorithm of a given platform. Through its creator program Jellysmack assists hundreds of creators build and monetise content to be best attuned to the preferences of a platform’s algorithm.

The creator experience division is at the heart of Jellysmack’s creator program. It offers an end to end set of services to Jellysmack creators and helps them every step of the way. This division plans to further expand its suite of products by building a creator-facing application that brings them valuable insights delivered at the right time, for maximum impact. Insights such as market trending data, detailed performance data on their latest content and video topic suggestions are among the data points that can help boost any creator’s performance and constitute an advantage over other creators that do not work with Jellysmack.Jellysmack is looking to hire a Director of Engineering to join the creator experience division and lead a team of engineers and data scientists to deliver new products to the market.

Reporting directly to Jellysmack Global CTO with a dotted line to the VP Creator Experience, the Director of Engineering - creator experience, will work closely with the business stakeholders and the product leaders of the creator experience division to define the product offerings that will help Jellysmack creators go bigger.

He/She will collaborate with the product team to define a delivery and roll out plan that meets the business needs of the division and Jellysmack, while managing a technical roadmap to ensure the products are delivered securely and at scale.

He/She will identify the right solution to test the market and define the best product fit, using techniques such as prototyping and mockup. In doing so, demonstrating an entrepreneurial and can- do, agile spirit is essential.

This role will be vital to the further growth of Jellysmack and contribute to the continued success of the creators on the platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Delivery. Accountable to deliver the product roadmap within agreed upon timelines, to the highest standards and quality.
• Technology: Ensure the solutions meet non functional requirements in terms of security, reliability and performance ; work on a long term architectural direction for the products.
• Product. Collaborate closely with the product team on a product feature roadmap and develop a technical roadmap that will ensure the underlying platform is scalable, secure and robust.
• Team. Hire, retain, and grow a world class team of highly talented technologists with relevant skills and experience scaling similar businesses.
• Leadership. Provide technical leadership & coaching to the team and participate in the technical roadmap and architecture of the platform.
• Partnership. Partner with other teams within Jellysmack Technology to deliver products that leverage existing Jellysmack components such as shared data and runtime infrastructure and common services.

Essential Skills

• 8+ years of working experience in technology leadership, focusing on building new digital products and services.
• Strong track record and experience in structuring, leading and motivating world class technical teams in a matrixed and distributed environment.
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, able to communicate your vision and plans to the business stakeholders
• Experience in product lifecycle planning and new product development, particularly in the consumer facing space.

• Experience in transactional company (eCommerce for instance) with global scale
• Experience on an Innovation team within a large organization or work at a start-up
• Prior experience as a CTO would be a bonus.
• Experience working in the media or content creation industry
