Modulr is looking for an ambitious and hands on Director of Engineering to join the team and drive our delivery function forward. This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly scaling payments business and be instrumental in accelerating our growth.

 About Us

At Modulr our mission is to move money efficiently to power business productivity. We are building a new digital payments service to make money flow more efficiently through businesses and the economy. This is a new type of payments account that is built for businesses that need faster, easier and more reliable ways to move money.

Our flexible platform and innovate approach allows our customers to utilise our payments account instead of a traditional bank account. Our accounts come with a sort code and account number, access to payment systems (eg Faster Payments and Visa) and everything our customers need from a payments account. They can instantly open as many accounts as they need, automate how they make and receive payments as well as the reconciliation processes these create. All in real time, 24/7 through their own systems utilising our API that integrates into any platform.

The Role

Key responsibilities

The Director of Engineering is a vital role within Modulr and will be accountable for the technical vison and long-term technology strategy.

  • Work closely with your product counterpart to define the product vision and long-term product strategy. Define the technical capabilities required to achieve that product strategy.
  • Lead, shape and define the Engineering strategy and standards for Modulr.
  • Be a technical leader and valued contributor to drive autonomy in a cross-functional, agile tribe and within Modulr.
  • Enable learning and knowledge sharing across the organisation, levelling up our engineering practices and mentoring other specialists.
  • Partnering with your management team, Engineering Managers and squads to ensure that they are delivering measured value at pace.
  • Ensure the teams are focussing on the right short term and long-term activities and balancing work across build, run and learning/ development
  • Driving the hiring of great technical talent.

 The Ideal Candidate

  • Experience leading large engineering teams (including Managers) in a fast-paced Fin Tech environment.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, and a track-record of using data to make decisions.
  • A technical expert with the ability to understand the technology and secure software development lifecycle.
  • Experience leading change initiatives through your teams with the ability to bring others along the journey.
  • Experience leading local and offshore teams
  • Excellent stakeholder management.
  • Be able to operate at a range of levels – both in terms of big picture strategic thinking, thought leadership and getting into the data and analysis
