Lead Frontend Developer
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, this is a unique opportunity to lead a team of frontend engineers, remaining hands on while acting as number two in the team, involved in critical decision making and being a key driver for Huel’s technical projects.

Our engineering team is crucial to our success and we are now looking for a Lead Frontend Developer to join our team based in Birmingham and take our technology to the next level.

Responsibilities
- Being a key driver in our technical projects, taking ownership and making a real impact
- Supporting our Head of Engineering to implement and maintain modern processes and standards
- Managing a team of software engineers, task planning and performing code reviews
- Delivering exceptional, best of breed user experiences through Huel’s website and apps
- Hands-on, improving the internal and external frontend-end systems
- Evolving our web platform to support the business as it grows and launches into new geographies
- Working with our Ecommerce and Marketing teams to shape our web strategy as the business grows
- Identify and resolving performance and scalability issues
Requirements
- The ability to drive technical projects and provide leadership in an innovative and fast-paced environment
- Highly proficient front-end skills (HTML5 / SCSS & Sass / JavaScript (ES6+) / Responsive Design)
- Substantial commercial experience with React
- An understanding of best practices and standards
- Ability to build reusable code and libraries for future use
- Previous experience with GIT or other version control software
- Experience using package management and build tools (npm, yarn, webpack, gulp)
- Knowledge of working with APIs
- Ability to work as part of a small, agile team while keeping an attention to detail
- Experience mentoring other engineers and the passion to encourage our speed-orientated culture and help cultivate a fast-growing team
- Optimising the website for speed for performance
- Results-driven - achievement revenue, customer value and engagement targets
Desirables
- Working knowledge of the Shopify Plus platform including Liquid
- Previous use of CLI tools
- An understanding of working with principles of UX and UI
- Confidence to present new ideas and participate in team meetings
- Background in Computer Science or related disciplines
- Learning the latest front-end technologies and standards to ensure we are always using the best tools and techniques possible
- Experience of using testing frameworks such as Jest
