The Legal Team is essential to helping Jellysmack accomplish its business missions. Not only do our lawyers make sure everything’s legal, they also work as active partners with our business and sales teams. Jellysmack’s legal team helps make sure that what we make is in line with our values at the same time that we accomplish or exceed our performance goals. No single day on the legal team is exactly like another, which is great to keep things interesting.

Legal skills alone are not enough to join the team. You must also be open-minded, a great communicator, have well-developed interpersonal and persuasive negotiating skills, and possess both business acumen and the drive to successfully close deals in Jellysmack’s best interests.


Business Affairs & Global Expansion

Under the supervision and guidance of the General Counsel and the Head of Business Affairs, you will supervise, negotiate, draft, and revise contracts with our Creator and Media partners who are based in Asia-Pacific (APAC). For this mission, you will work closely with the General Manager APAC day-to-day to support the partnerships team and Jellysmack’s APAC expansion of operations.

Through your work, you will help to ensure a unified legal framework is applied in our partnership and licensing strategy, and develop creative solutions to accomplish ambitious business goals in compliance with our legal policies. You will collaborate and consult with the General Counsel to assist in the development and updates of the legal framework for business operations in APAC. You will coordinate with the global legal team to ensure that the business teams are provided with approved legal templates and documentation.

You will review contracts with APAC-based service providers and optimize our third-party and vendor contract terms and process in consultation with the General Counsel and General Manager APAC.

Legal Department Management APAC

As the first full-time member of our APAC legal team, you will help to scale the APAC legal department and to manage the APAC legal team under the supervision of the General Counsel and/or Head of Business Affairs, as applicable.

You will own the APAC-based legal team budget, and will liaise with our APAC outside counsel in coordination with the General Counsel and/or Head of Business Affairs, as applicable.

You will work collaboratively with the entire Global Legal Team to continuously improve legal process flows, and to increase legal awareness, compliance, and efficiency in the company.

Compliance, Data Privacy, and Data Security

You will liaise with and support our data, tech, legal, and corporate teams, and our engaged consultant specialists, with respect to general compliance, data privacy, and data security.


A little about you

7-10 years of experience with a preference for in-house positions in a fast-growing environment. Strong understanding of social media, entertainment law, content creation, intellectual property, and tech environments will be most valuable for this role. Previous experience in a media company or a software company is a big plus. The ideal candidate will have the ability to provide pragmatic and business-oriented legal advice under tight timeframes, and to exercise agility in prioritization of legal tasks as needed. The Head of Legal – APAC will also need the ability to adapt and apply a complex legal framework to our operational needs. The capacity to build strong cross-functional relationships with other teams is essential, as are well-developed communication and negotiation skills.

The ideal candidate for this role will be based in Singapore, with English language fluency (oral and written). Candidates with additional language fluency (such as Hindi, Bengali, Korean, Mandarin, Cantonese, or Japanese) should be sure to note those skills in their application or CV.

Although we are seeking a candidate based in Singapore or a similarly convenient time zone for work within APAC, Jellysmack believes in a flexible work environment in which anyone can work from anywhere. This is why we’ve implemented our flexible location philosophy, meaning you are able to work wherever you are legally licensed and authorized to do so. Nota bene: your residence must be in the country in which you are applying.
