About the role and you:

As part of our continued growth, we seek to hire a Lead Electronics Engineer to join the Electric Drives function within our Hardware team, Connected Products. This is a newly created position specialising in developing and testing inverter hardware and related power-/control-electronics for volume applications. We are looking for an experienced multi-tasker, managing project prioritisation whilst fully supporting the team to deliver against stretching project goals. Alongside leading the team, there will still be plenty of opportunity to roll up your sleeves by prototyping new features and maintaining/enhancing existing projects. You will have the opportunity to make an impact on the products we develop and help to solve some of our most challenging engineering problems. The ideal person will have experience of designing 500W+ inverters for consumer applications, or directly-transferrable skills.

What you’ll do

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create high quality products that delight our customers
  • Manage incoming work requests, prioritise team tasks and manage stakeholder expectations
  • Capture and interpret requirements, generating clear specifications, proposals and project plans
  • Conduct feasibility studies and develop high-level designs for inverters and related power-/control-electronics in collaboration with colleagues
  • Work with Engineering and Program Management colleagues to accurately plan and manage timing/deliverables
  • Contributing to the planning and delivery of electronics test programs
  • Circuit/component simulations/calculations and design optimisation
  • Schematic capture, layout and prototype testing of power-/control-electronics PCBAs
  • Specification of manufacturing/test fixtures (e.g. jigs and rigs) for prototyping and high-volume production
  • Demonstrate that designs are robust, cost effective and fit for purpose, defining appropriate manufacturing routes where required and incorporating supplier DfX feedback
  • Lead design reviews and provide advice/feedback, identify opportunities for improvement
  • Lead development and maintenance of DFMEAs, safety studies etc., identify critical characteristics etc. and support PFMEA/quality plan development by colleagues and suppliers
  • Assist colleagues, customers and suppliers with solving mechanical/manufacturing issues, in the field or remotely, as required
  • Support the build & test of prototype electronics hardware/systems, including managing procurement and assembly of prototype PCBAs with support from procurement team
  • Contribute to the development of the businesses processes and procedures
  • Managing contractors where needed.

What you’ll have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent numerate field.
  • Master’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Experience developing mechanical inverters for comparable applications at volume.
  • Experience leading and growing a small to medium sized team.
  • Excellent communication skills with confidence to manage relationships in multiple global locations
  • Experience with SolidWorks PCB and/or Altium
  • Experience of managing/collaborating with contract manufacturing partners

Bonus Points

  • Experience of designing relevant inverter products for volume production
  • Experience of working in the fitness hardware industry
