Backend Engineer (Remote)
Cobalt Robotics is looking for smart, humble backend engineers (senior and mid-level) who want to help build a company that is known for its excellence in engineering, passion for progress, and dedication to customers.
Our backend systems facilitate robots which operate in complex, unpredictable environments and deliver proven value to our customers. Cobalt robots autonomously respond to alarms, ride elevators to patrol multiple floors, open doors, and detect security, safety, and facilities risks. We have many exciting problems to solve as our fleet scales, and we need your help guiding our backend team along the way!
You
- Generalist who loves diving into many different areas
- Proficient with Python
- Experienced with Django or a similar web framework
- Passionate about engineering quality code
- Excited to write code that’s released continuously and used by our fleet of production robots
- Eager to collaborate, mentor, and learn from your peers through code reviews, design docs, and pairing
- BA / BS in Computer Science or a related field, or 2+ years of industry experience
Recent Projects
- Elevator integrations: Coordinate autonomous elevator trips by communicating wirelessly with elevator servers.
- Alarm response: Enable the robot to respond immediately to alarm integrations, escalate to a human if necessary, and then resume its duties.
Upcoming Projects
- Video streaming integrations: Allow customers to see live video feeds from the robot directly from their integrated security suite.
- More elevator integrations: Allow our robot to ride complex elevator setups from an array of elevator companies.
- Database scaling: Optimize our queries (caching, ORM improvements, etc.)
- Open organization metrics: Make our metrics visible across all departments to enable individuals to make choices that drive our KPIs.
What You'll Do
- Design and implement new backend APIs to support customer interfaces and our fleet of robots.
- Improve performance and reliability of our backend APIs and infrastructure.
- Scale our infrastructure to support our growing fleet of robots, customers, and internal human operators.
- Participate in code and design reviews.
Bonus Skills
- Experience with distributed systems
- Experience with backend resilience / stability / SRE improvements
- Experience with performance improvements of databases and APIs
- Experience working in a fast paced startup environment
- Experience with AWS and DevOps
- Experience with networking and security
