We're disrupting the insurance industry with our platform Renew, which insurers use to build mathematical models to make complex pricing decisions. Modelling the answer to questions such as:

  • What are the chances that SpaceX's next launch will fail?
  • What are the chances of Kanye West cancelling his sell-out tour?

Renew is self-serve - allowing insurance professionals to login to our development platform and build their own models in a "pro-code" environment, using Python.

There is a huge amount of appetite in the insurance industry to learn more about Python and how it can help throughout the value chain, and at hx we believe in being net contributors to the insurance industry.

Your mission will be to productionise and significantly expand upon our existing training content. This will contribute towards hx building an insurance industry focussed community of Python and product evangelists enabled by top class learning collateral.

You will be a vital contributor to the development of programming skills in the insurance industry. This is not about just training insurance professionals on our product - but on all things that Python can help with in insurance.

We are looking for someone to establish an agile framework for content development and running with it to build training for our community.

Key Responsibilities

Note: hx is still a relatively early-stage business, and our culture prizes initiative highly - as such this section is a good indicator of your role, but the list isn’t exhaustive. The right candidate will seize the opportunity we have to build out an insurance industry first community, and teach hx what good looks like!

Working collaboratively with the Customer and Product & Engineering teams, you will be responsible for:

  • Creating and enhancing training content for a community of Python & Renew product enthusiasts in the insurance industry
  • Contributing to the learning pathways required to upskill community members - including members of the wider public as well as customers & partners - on both subject matters
  • Using an appropriate blend of ILT content and self-serve materials with hands-on exercises
  • Structuring the training in an engaging way, considering how we can encourage community members to share their achievements and knowledge to broaden the community
  • Aligning training with a certification and badging program as we grow

The right person will also be an advocate for what best practice learning looks like across the organisation as we scale. This is expected to include supporting other team members on given projects, for example supporting on the learning pathway when onboarding new joiners across the business.

Initial deliverables

Reporting to the Head of Learning, you will:

  • Build an understanding of the subject matter - Python in Insurance, and our product Renew - such that you can, in conjunction with SMEs, build meaningful introductory through to advanced level training
  • Build content for scalable learning pathways for Renew. The right person will be a doer - and excited about building the pathways and content themselves, including drafting material and creating videos
  • Leverage and enhance our existing in-house training materials with a combination of self developed content and curated content from third parties
  • Built relationships with the Engineering and Customer teams as well as partners in the broader 'Python in Insurance' space whom we can leverage in building out a community presence through training
  • Develop the learning pathways for Python in insurance
  • Contribute to an initiative, in partnership with our Talent & Operations teams, to attract a team of 20 graduates joining the insurance industry and help to train them on Python in insurance and our platform Renew

Persona

If you're the right fit for this role, you will be able to show clear evidence that you are:

An enthusiast - this is one of the defining characteristics of all hxers, and permeates work and play for us. We actively seek out lifelong learners who enjoy "levelling-up" as part of their daily life; this means you will be:

  • Deeply interested in the start-up and high-growth sector and ecosystem: its quirks, unique characteristics and requirements
  • Passionate about the latest in learning & community building
  • Keen to develop your own knowledge of our platform and community, and share that knowledge with a broad audience
  • Proactive and highly motivated in your approach to producing training for others

Want to be central to a high value initiative, creating a best/first-in-class community

You will be expected to publish new materials regularly. The right person will be motivated by results and quickly establish themselves as a networker in our business; this means you will:

  • Enjoy working with an Agile approach to development
  • Be someone who delivers on commitments - setting ambitious goals and achieving them
  • Highly results-oriented
  • Have high standards for your work, but not at the expense of pace
  • Be enthusiastic - because being first to do this in an industry can be challenging!!

Are a team player - in the broadest sense. Able and wanting to work with partners inside and outside of our immediate circle to maximise reach.

There is a lot we can do - but your impact will be maximised through relationship building and partnerships with existing individuals, companies, and communities. To build these relationships and achieve this leverage you will need to be:

  • An active listener - someone who can take on information and respond to what the audience wants
  • Organised and proactive - able to manage development with multiple stakeholders in parallel
  • Dedicated and diligent in your approach

You'll also need to be comfortable with our way of working, which is remote-hybrid, international, and service-oriented. We are an enterprise technology firm with a multinational client base - we let flexibility, customer-centricity and doing the right thing guide how and where we work.

Experience and skills

hx is far less interested in counting years over evidence of delivery, and our requirements reflect this.

To be successful in this role, you'll need to have:

  • Scoped and storyboarded technical training
  • Created classroom materials, including presentations, hands on lab exercises and guides
  • Worked with eLearning content creation, including scripting
  • Experience with eLearning video creation and production
  • Experience with Python
  • A preference for multi-modality, modularised training

Extra credit:

  • You have experience working in a high-growth company, where the product has been changing and updated regularly, requiring a dynamic and agile approach to ensure the content remains current!
  • You have experience integrating training with badging and certification programs, and gamifying the content.

What do we offer?

  • Competitive salary + very staff-friendly EMI share options
  • £5,000 annual learning & development allowance
  • Private healthcare (inc. dental) insurance through Vitality
  • Enhanced pension scheme through Penfold
  • 33 days annual leave (inc. public holidays)
  • Top-spec equipment (laptop, mechanical keyboards, screens, etc)
  • Regular remote hackathons, lunch & learns, socials and games nights
  • Team breakfasts and lunches, snacks, drinks fridge, fun office @ The Ministry
  • Monthly Revenue team socials
  • Huge opportunity for personal development and mastery as we grow together
  • Annual team trip somewhere warm!
