About us

We’ve grown at an incredibly fast pace since our launch in 2017. We’re the trusted student-recruitment partner to 600 higher ed institutions in 35 countries worldwide. Including the University of Cambridge, Kings College London, Boston University, University of Southern California, NYU Global Services, HEC Paris, and Erasmus.

We’ve raised over $33M from top-tier investors, and we’re on course to achieve our mission of empowering 10 million students to make the right choices in their higher ed journey.

Here’s where you come in

We have a special opportunity for an exceptional Product Designer (UX/UI) to own the design, experience, and value creation for our newest revenue-generating product. You will partner closely with a Product Manager to understand the psychology of our global Gen Z user base, unearthing behavioural insights and identifying what makes them tick. Being the pioneer driving us forward with creating remarkable native mobile experiences.

You will be building category-defining experiences to help students across the globe build meaningful connections as well as gain the confidence they have found the place they want to spend the next 3-4 years of their life. This is for you if you match our ambition of creating a truly engaging and enjoyable product that helps support and shapes the generations of tomorrow.

What you’ll be doing

Our talented team of three Product Designers is embedded within a close-knit, cross-functional squad, each working extremely closely with a Product Manager and Engineering Lead (“3 Amigos”) to identify customer needs and create the best solutions to solve them. You will be:

  • Owning the end-to-end ideation, solutionising and design of features for our university admin users, student ambassadors and prospective students.

  • A team player within your squad. Facilitating collaborative workshops, advocating for the user, and driving a culture of ‘test and learn’ experimentation.

  • Planning, conducting, and analysing user research. Taking a holistic view to understand our customer's broader context of use and identifying opportunities to better meet their needs, both inside and outside of our user interfaces.

  • Making intelligent design decisions and compromises to support an MVP approach, while keeping the user at the centre, utilising data and validation to inform these decisions.

  • Creating and maintaining thoroughly documented design artefacts (e.g. service design blueprint maps) for knowledge sharing and opportunity identification.

  • Building Unibuddy’s web and native component library from the ground up, working in Figma and collaborating with our engineering department, creating UIs and clickable prototypes, assessing accessibility and driving improvements to increase the efficiency of our delivery across the team.

  • Working closely with other designers to ensure cohesive experiences across all of our product lines and customer touch points.

This might be for you if

You are passionate about:

  • Delivering world-class, user-centric and pixel-perfect digital experiences,

  • Human psychology and are curious why users act in the way they do, hunting for data and insights to understand user behaviours

  • The importance of UX, visual design, information architecture and copywriting, aware that they all are needed to create a great experience.

  • Striving and driving with a “continuous improvement” mindset in everything you and the team do, hungry to grow and raise the bar.

  • Have 2+ years in a Product Design role, tackling both UX and UI design challenges in a B2C commercial setting (B2B2C would be a bonus) evidenced by a portfolio of beautiful case studies.

  • Have strong research skills, are able to leverage both quantitative and qualitative data to drive design decisions, and understand when and how to employ the right techniques to validate as effectively as possible.

  • Have demonstrable experience in designing and building products from scratch, methodically identifying and addressing unknowns to deliver customer value.

  • Are comfortable facilitating workshops and other collaborative sessions, whether digitally or in person.

  • Are a real team player, enthusiastic about helping out and giving/receiving feedback, and keen to help others develop; feedback is the lifeblood of our individual and collective performance.

  • Can show proven experience in driving impact within a cross-functional squad by applying design methods within an agile scrum framework.

We know that typically some people only apply to jobs if they see themselves ticking every box. We believe we’re more than boxes to tick. If you don't meet all the requirements but think you might still be right for the role or others, please apply anyway. We're always keen to speak to people who connect with our mission and values.

About our Team

The Product Design team is part of the Product organisation at Unibuddy and collaborates with Product Managers and Engineers on a daily basis. The incredibly talented Design team currently consists of 3 Product Designers and 1 Graphic Designer, responsible for the visual identity and customer interactions across all our customer touch points and journeys.

The Product team’s role is to create a vision and build experiences that delight our customers, solve their needs and help Unibuddy grow as a business. We know that building great products and defining a new category is hard, as is making best-in-class user experiences.
