Modulr is looking for an ambitious, dynamic and commercially minded lawyer to join our in-house legal team to help support the fast growth of our business in a wide-ranging legal role.   An exciting opportunity to join a growing business and be an instrumental part of the foundation of the legal team.

What we’re looking for

We're looking for a lawyer (ideally 3 to 7 years PQE), who has strong private practice training ideally combined with some in-house experience such as a secondment to a client. The lawyer will report to the General Counsel for Modulr. The General Counsel reports directly to the COO and works closely with the senior leadership team. The legal team is currently made up of three, the General Counsel based in London and two other Legal Counsels based in Edinburgh.

Responsibilities

  • Along with the Legal team, you will be responsible for all legal matters affecting Modulr – including negotiating and agreeing client contracts, and dealing with a wide range of supplier contracts, such as key relationships in banking, technology, employment, marketing and property.
  • Deal with a variety of contract types – including banking agency agreements, payment scheme contracts, amendments, accessions, addendums, NDAs, general terms and conditions, proposals, introducer arrangements and statements of work.
  • Advise and contribute to a wide range of issues and projects – including strategic and regulatory advice within a commercial context.
  • Ensure that Modulr contracts with counterparties efficiently and continues to grow, while assessing and managing risk appropriately.
  • Help the Legal team to continue to build the legal function – including proper and adequate governance, templates and processes are implemented and embedded in the organisation.
  • Work across the business with a high degree of autonomy and be open to opportunities to focus on areas that particularly interests you.
  • Help shaping the Legal team, as well as the wider business, as Modulr continues to grow.

  • You care about protecting the business, whilst also supporting rapid growth.
  • You are excited about the prospect of playing a key role in legal for Modulr.
  • You are structured and organised, able to handle the competing pressures of immediate legal tasks and work alongside longer term projects.
  • You are comfortable working in an early stage of a business unit, where time is critical and things change frequently.
  • You have an optimistic outlook, can-do attitude and open personality that likes to have fun at work as well as getting the job done.

  

Skills and experience we’re interested in:

  • You have at least 3 years PQE
  • Strong private practice training combined with some in-house experience such as a secondment to a client.
  • Experience in payments or banking and finance law preferred but not essential.
  • The world of FinTech and being part of an early stage business excites you.
