Mission

To partner with our VP Customer & Consultancy, Head of Customer Engagement and Model Development and continue to grow their teams with the very best talent.

As a key figure in our talent team you will be responsible for ensuring successful delivery into these teams and execution against our broader hiring strategy.

This year has seen us grow from a 12-person startup in Peckham to a 40-person, post-Series A scaleup with HQ at The Ministry, Borough. We've been busily establishing our 'foundations to scale' and have built the framework required to take us to the next level.

Over the next 12 months we will grow from 40 to 100 employees across multiple territories. At least 20 of these hires will fall under insurance, spanning model development, customer delivery, customer success and project management.

You will own the stakeholder management across these teams, building relationships with some of the very best figures in industry who we have worked tirelessly to secure as we build the platform for our next growth phase, so you will have a very soft landing!

Talent @ hx

In taking this role you will be joining an effective, high-performance talent team. We are a team of true talent professionals who go above and beyond at every opportunity. We task ourselves with being the standard setters to each other and the wider business, and we forge partnerships with hiring teams and consult them on best hiring practices.

We are the guardians of hx culture and we challenge our colleagues if we are at risk of making a hire that could negatively impact this or fail to meet our quality of standards.

We have scrapped, we have dug deep and we've pushed the limits of what should be achievable by such a small team. In doing so, we've laid the foundations for hx to become one of the very best technology companies globally.

These foundations include:

  • Hiring our VP Sales, VP Customer & Consultancy, Head of Frontend, Head of Backend, Head of Excellence, Head of Ops and People Ops & Performance Lead
  • Tripling our engineering team and quadrupling our consultancy (model development) team, while also scaling out sales, marketing & ops
  • Designing and rolling out V1 of the hx Hiring Playbook, with V2 in development
  • and we'll have a CFO, Head of Marketing & Head of Product landing soon...

As we move into our next phase of growth, we are realigning our team to be even more effective. Where we have so far operated as a team of generalists we will soon be formalising our team structure and splitting into the following disciplines:

  • Product Engineering
  • Revenue
  • Insurance

As our Insurance Talent Partner you will have autonomy to bring your own approach to the role and operate in the way that allows you to be most effective, with close support from the Head of Talent & Community and the wider talent team.

Key Responsibilities

Delivery

  • Ensure that our insurance-focused hiring targets are consistently achieved
  • Maintain impeccable standards - raise the bar in candidate experience, interview technique, hiring processes, sourcing and strength of candidate
  • Work to the broader hiring plan but be pragmatic in your approach signalling early if changes should be made

Stakeholder Management

  • Lead regular syncs, reporting and consulting for and with stakeholders
  • Work with the Head of Talent to produce weekly reports to all hiring managers
  • Identify opportunities to improve hiring processes and interview technique with your respective hiring managers and their teams
  • Embed yourself in your partner teams by joining standups and meetings, as often as you feel necessary!

Community

  • Work with our VP Customer & Consultancy, Head of Customer Engagement and Head of Learning to deepen our engagement within the actuarial community
  • Leverage your network to continue to build hx's brand through events and initiatives
  • Work with our Head of Learning to design and implement the hx insurance graduate programme, and take the lead on hiring for it!

Initial deliverables

  • Learn the talent team's ways of working through our standups and ceremonies
  • Attend 1:1s with all talent team members to get to know your teammates and understand their journeys
  • Host 1:1s with all hiring managers within insurance at hx, and join team meetings to get to know your new colleagues
  • Work with hiring managers to spec out their roles understand the hiring processes
  • Begin sourcing for talent! We have a LOT of hiring to do, so we'll support you to get up and running right away

Persona

If you're the right fit for this role, you will be able to show clear evidence that you:

Hold yourself and those around you to the highest standards - you don't settle for 'good enough', and you challenge others to expect higher standards of themselves even when it is easy to overlook

Are an owner - You understand the importance of autonomy and commit to finishing projects when others might stop

Are dependable - we operate in a high-trust environment, so it is vital that everyone can count on you to deliver what you promise, when you promise it

Experience and skills

hx is far less interested in counting years over evidence of delivery, and our requirements reflect this.

To be a good fit for this role you will need:

  • Several years' experience (likely 4+) hiring within insurance for companies with the highest standards across all departments, with heavy focus on model development
  • Successfully executed against talent acquisition strategies and managed end-to-end recruitment lifecycles across all roles and levels
  • Deep knowledge of the actuarial market and its trends, and a great network within the insurance/actuarial community
  • The ability to break down long-term hiring strategies to ensure successful delivery against these
  • A positive attitude! We are an immensely positive team - dare we say with a good sense of humour - so as a member of this team you must also be! We usually finish our standups with a joke, riddle or fact, as chosen by the chairperson - so come armed...

Interview process

  • Initial phone call to see if we fit
  • 1:1 with Head of Talent & Community
  • Presentation to Head of Talent & Community and CTO
  • Meet the talent team
  • 1:1 with CEO
