The Role

We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join our team and lead the development of our recommendation engine.  You will be responsible for setting up the systems that we will be using to help our customers become experts at gifting. Using our experience and data you will develop a novel recommendation engine that will help our customers to maximize their return on investment by recommending when, what and to whom to give. You will be working closely with other members of the data science team, software engineers and our sales and marketing teams to deliver this engine - we have the advantage that we use our own product, converting that knowledge into a model is your challenge!

In addition to leading the recommendation engine you will also be involved in other areas of the data science workload, where we will be exploring ways of measuring value to customers, predicting outcomes, supporting our warehousing team with inventory management and load predictions, or anything else you can think of! You will also be expected to support and develop junior data scientists and take an active role in the development of a new team in a fast growing, young company.  We want this team to have a big impact on the company and you will have the opportunity to help shape how we do that. What We Are Looking For

We do not believe that people live in boxes but we do feel that to thrive in this role you should have:

  • Experience designing and implementing recommendation systems into production.
  • Fluent in SQL and Python (and its data science packages including Pandas, numpy, scipy).
  • Experience with a variety of machine learning & deep learning packages, for example TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, scikit-learn, XGBoost.
  • Knowledge of a variety of machine learning techniques (clustering, decision tree learning, artificial neural networks, etc.) and their real-world advantages/drawbacks.
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, statistical distributions, statistical tests, and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications.
  • Analytical degree to Masters level or higher (fields such as statistics, mathematics, physics, astronomy, engineering).
  • 4+ years experience as a data scientist or undertaking similar analyses.
  • Fluent English

  • Experience leading projects - you can gather requirements, scope them out, produce a plan and deliver to that plan, whilst keeping key stakeholders engaged and updated.
  • Start-up mindset - you know how to generate something from scratch.
  • Cross functional communicator - you know how to tell the story in an audience-oriented way to product, engineering, data science, BI, sales or anyone else who asks.
  • Agile approach - you can break a task down into actionable components.
