As a certified B-Corp, WeTransfer aims to be a sustainable and responsible tech company, balancing people, planet, and profit

So, the work we do matters. Come and be a part of it.

About us

We are the Creative Studio, WeTransfer’s in-house creative agency which oversees everything the company puts out into the world. Our team of designers, copywriters, developers and project managers work closely with our product, marketing, advertising and editorial teams. Together we guide, create, and publish projects that capture the imaginations of millions of users and our global audience.

WeTransfer stands for freedom, creativity, simplicity, and humanity. It is your responsibility to make sure we inspire and reflect these values wherever WeTransfer shows up. From our evolving product line-up to our editorial arm WePresent, across research & innovation projects like Ideas Report and the Future of Creativity, and our Influence podcast—there is so much more to WeTransfer than most people are aware of, and we need your help to tell the world about it.

About you

We are looking for an industry leader who can make an immediate impact on both the Creative Engineering team, and the entire Creative Studio within WeTransfer. As a creative-focused technology company, we recognize creative development as core to what we do, with the ability to help elevate the company to new and uncharted territories.

We are looking for someone who is driven and capable of both leading and managing a group of passionate engineers. We want this person to lead by example and help chart and build the future of the department working directly with the ECD, CCO and other managers on the team.

Your Role

Your role will be helping define creative excellence and fostering experimentation, while managing a team of creative coders. Your reputation and industry knowledge will help us hire other top tier developers as well. You will be tasked with ensuring the team can continue to build out capabilities to develop award-winning, widely recognized work.

You will be a point person for major projects like WePresent 2.0 and the continued development of our brand site, while influencing the evolution of WeTransfer itself. You will bring your background of making work that delights users into leading projects in WeTransfer’s Advertising space. There will also be a variety of special projects such as the yearly Ideas Report, The Creative Hubs, Artist Collaborations, and one-offs like A Message from Earth that can be delved into and defined.

What that looks like on a day-to-day

Moving autonomously, you’re able to prioritize various projects and requests from team members you manage over your morning coffee, without breaking a sweat. You may dip into a codebase, approve a PR, or have high-level systems design brainstorming sessions (though you’re equally prepped to talk design systems). Some days, you’ll be more focused on strategy, others on technology. You’re driven to help your team be a success through management, mentorship, and code reviews, keeping WeTransfer a leader in the creative industry; not only in engineering but in ideas and creativity.

Key Qualifications

  • You have 3+ years experience managing a frontend engineering team

  • You have 10+ years hands-on experience as an individual contributor

  • You’ve guided the development of large-scale websites, applications, and scalable components

  • You collaborate fluidly with designers and are comfortable with design tools such as Figma

  • You’re a strong communicator who can foster a healthy team culture

  • You’re a proven mentor, capable of helping reports grow and achieve career goals

  • You build strong cross-functional relationships with other teams throughout an organization and can be an advocate on behalf of your team

  • You can recruit, onboard, and maintain high-level talent

  • You have experience managing a distributed team

  • You’re confident providing both technical leadership and art direction, including roadmapping and scoping multi-faceted projects

Tech Talk

  • You’ve built or managed teams developing with 3D, WebGL, shaders, or other complex visualizations and experiences

  • You have extensive experience with React.js and/or other modern frameworks

  • You have experience with Contentful or other headless CMSs, and fully understand databases and data modeling

  • You have a track record of designing and running applications with scalability, portability, and robustness, with an understanding of backend technologies including Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS

  • You’re deeply familiar with git, Github, and a collaborative workflow

  • You’re passionate about web accessibility and inclusive design

Required

This role is open to candidates living in or near one of three of our main hubs: Amsterdam, London, or New York City, or willing to relocate. Consideration will be given to those unable to relocate but in one of these three time zones.

A note on remote
