Backend Engineer, Distributed Systems

What You’ll Be Doing:

We are looking for a hands-on Backend Engineer (m/f/d), keen to join us to build the distributed system that powers our next generation BPMN Process Engine! You will be part of a talented, passionate and supporting group of Backend Software Engineers that complement each other to succeed!

• You will contribute to the distributed system components of our open-sourced distributed process engine Zeebe (source-available License) which powers process automation in Camunda 8
• You will design and implement new features and improvements for our distributed system based on our vision as well as customer and community feedback
• You will help us to continuously improve the reliability, stability, performance and security of our system, e.g. by pushing the performance boundaries of the platform for higher throughput and lower latency
• You will use cloud native technologies to build, run, test and benchmark our system in modern cloud environments from a product engineers perspective
• You will closely collaborate and exchange knowledge with your teammates and other engineers in the organization
• You will support other Camundi, customers, external contributors and the community to use and operate our system
• You will provide 3rd level support (rotates across engineers) for our system in close collaboration with our Site Reliability Engineers and be part of our on-call rotation

*This is a remote role and can be based anywhere in EMEA.

What You Bring:

• You are heavily interested in distributed systems, it’s a bonus if you have hands-on experience using such systems or even contributed yourself
• You have 1-3 years of experience working with JVM programming languages, it’s a bonus if you have experience with concurrent programming models such as the actor model
• You are passionate about writing clean, maintainable and performant code
• You are curious and always willing to broaden your horizon, embracing collaboration in order to succeed
• Strong analytical problem-solving and root-causing skills - if it must be down to OS level
