We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Head of Software Engineering to join our dynamic team in Munich. As the Head of Software Engineering , you will be responsible for leading the software development teams of one of four Realms and driving the technical vision for the organization.   • You head the EGYM Core Software Realm, containing services and functionality like handling hundreds of thousands of user profiles, millions of exercises and thousands of connected gym and many more artifacts that are used across the whole EGYM Software Ecosystem
  • You provide technical leadership, guidance, coaching, and mentoring for the four Engineering Managers and 24 engineers in your Realm. You identify talent within the department and constantly develop our people
  • You align and collaborate with your peers from the other three Realms: Machine, Apps and Wellpass
  • You are responsible for establishing processes within the department, driving and supporting technical key decisions and engineering best practices
  • You discuss technical issues at eye level with our software Engineering Team Leads and support the teams by understanding their needs in building robust and scalable technical solutions
  • You work closely with Product Management for a better understanding of our technical requirements, options and connected costs and to ensure technical solutions are aligned with business goals and user needs
YOUR FITNESS LEVEL
  • You have at least 2 years of professional experience as an Engineering Manager / Team Lead, perhaps even leading multiple teams
  • You are passionate about software engineering with extensive backend experience working with technologies such as - but not limited to Java and Golang
  • You are familiar with building a service oriented architecture and with the concept of microservices and Domain Driven Design. You have first hand experience with the challenges and approaches to master such an environment
  • You are excited about guiding, mentoring and coaching your smart and talented team instead of "doing everything yourself". Especially working in a distributed environment with offices in Munich and Berlin and Service Providers in Europe and "hybrid teams"
  • You are able to influence and engage with key stakeholders and establish a professional and inspiring relationship between the department and stakeholders
  • You have very strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills and an entrepreneurial mindset
  • You are an excellent communicator in English
  • You will be traveling once a quarter to meet and greet your team members on a regular basis. More frequent travel is of course always possible
YOUR TRAINING GOAL FOR YOUR FIRST 6 MONTHS
  • You completed orientation, became familiar with the codebase of the Realm, the EGYM products, and learned EGYM's habits and Engineering Principles
  • You understand our existing technical initiatives and provide your insights and ideas
  • You take ownership of one of our Technical Leadership Goals and help advance the progress
  • You contribute to creating an environment of knowledge exchange within the Realm. Public talks and publications are a plus
  • You handled escalations for severe or long running service disruptions
